Upshoot Theatre Company are auditioning for their next big community theatre production, All Shook Up!

It’s 1955, and into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing young man who changes everything and everyone he meets. Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy will have you jumpin’ out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”

INFORMATION EVENING

We are holding an Information Evening on the 22nd February, 7.30pm at The Fisher Theatre.

We will be chatting through the show and the roles available, and what our vision is. You’ll meet the production team and we can answer any questions you might have, plus we’ll go over all the details for the auditions! This evening isn’t mandatory to attend but will be a great opportunity to informally hear about the show and ask any questions you may have. Alternatively, you can send any queries to our team at upshoottheatre@gmail.com.

AUDITION DATES AND INFORMATION

If you would like to audition for the show, please complete this google form: https://forms.gle/3GAqaT48kd44GP3G8

The main audition session will be on the 26th of February at 6pm at The Fisher Theatre.

This session will contain elements of singing, dancing and acting, and shouldn’t run any later than 9pm. It will be a workshop audition so will contain lots of collaboration and working with other auditionees. We won’t expect any solo singing or dancing within this audition but may split people into smaller teams. Anyone wanting to be involved in our production of All Shook Up must attend this group audition. We want the audition process to be as relaxed and enjoyable as it can be, and if anyone has any concerns don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll do our best to accommodate you!

Principal auditions will be held on the 1st of March at 7.30pm

These will be allocated time slots for anyone auditioning for a principal role. You will be asked to prepare a song (listed below) and will be given some scenes to do also - these don’t need to be learnt, just familiar! We will be sending people the scenes they will need via email, once they have completed the audition form and confirmed who’d they’d like to audition for.

These are the songs we are asking you to prepare for each role. Ideally we’d like you to learn the song but realise people may not have time so if you still need words/sheet music in the audition, that’s not a problem! All the songs are on Spotify in the Broadway Original Cast Recording so you can listen to them in advance.

Natalie Haller - One Night With You and the beginning Little Less Conversation - we just need to see a snippet of you both as Natalie and her alter ego, Ed!

Chad - If I Can Dream (up to ‘why won’t that sun appear’) and the first two verses/chorus’ of Jailhouse Rock.

Jim Haller - Don’t Be Cruel (Although Chad starts this song we’d like to hear you sing both verses up to ‘I really love you baby, cross my heart’)

Sylvia - There’s Always Me

Lorraine - It’s Now or Never (just Lorraine's part)

Dennis - It Hurts Me

Miss Sandra - Let Yourself Go

Mayor Matilda Hyde - Devil In Disguise

Dean Hyde - It’s Now or Never (just Dean's part)

If you have any questions about the songs we’ve asked for or need any clarity, just email us!

CHARACTER INFORMATION

Please note, we have the ability to alter the vocal ranges for these roles.  If you think you are right for the part, please audition for the role!

Natalie Haller (range F#3 - F5) - A young woman and an excellent mechanic. She's much more at home in greasy overalls than a dress. Spends part of the show dressed in drag as Ed in order to be close to Chad.

Chad (F#2 - A4) - A good lookin’, motorcyclin', guitar-playin', leather-jacketed roustabout.

Jim Haller (Bb2 - F#4) - Natalie's widowed father. Middle-aged and messy, he still longs for his wife.

Sylvia (F3 - F5) - The no-nonsense owner of the local bar ‘Syvlia's Honky-Tonk’.

Lorraine (C4 - Eb5) - Sylvia's teenage daughter. Pretty, smart, and a total romantic.

Dennis (A2 - Bb4)  An awkward young man. He aspires to be a dentist. Is in love with Natalie.

Miss Sandra (E3 - F5) The beautiful, intellectual curator of the town's museum.

Mayor Matilda Hyde (Bb3 - C6) The town's very conservative mayor.

Dean Hyde (D3 - Bb4) - Matilda's teenage son. He has spent most of his youth at military boarding schools and he has never disobeyed his mother.

ENSEMBLE - Strong, heavily used for both singing and dancing as townspeople, etc.  The ensemble is an integral part of this show and appears on stage in the majority of the scenes. There are several small speaking roles and vocal solos which will be cast out of the ensemble.
